The Bahamas’ Nassau Cruise Port welcomed a record-breaking 5.6 million passengers in 2024, marking its second consecutive year of growth. In 2023, the port saw 4.4 million cruisers, up significantly from 3.2 million passengers the year before.

The impressive year-over-year growth signals a consistent upward trajectory for the Caribbean destination’s cruise business, with 61% of its 9.1 million total visitors arriving via cruise ship. To maintain its momentum, the port has expansion and improvement plans underway, including enhanced facilities, family-oriented experiences, dining options and new sustainable practices.

Our Analysis: Cruising Is More Popular Than Ever, Thanks to Recent Expansion and Diversification

The surge in cruisers visiting Nassau is reflective of a wider trend: Cruising is only becoming more popular as new lines enter the industry and offer their unique takes on the travel style, helping bring an ever-wider range of clients onboard. Even travel advisors who have “non-cruisers” as clients may want to take this year to suggest that they consider their first sailing. With more tailored options available than ever before — from small-ship expeditions to hotel-branded luxury yachts — it’s a whole new world for cruising, and travelers of all kinds are increasingly likely to find a brand that resonates with them.

What They Are Saying: The Nassau Cruise Port Is an Important Source of Opportunity

“We are incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone for the second year in a row,” said Mike Maura, Jr., CEO of Nassau Cruise Port. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication and collaboration of our talented team, our valued partners and the Bahamian people. We could not have reached this point without the unwavering support of our stakeholders, including the Government of the Bahamas, our cruise line partners, local businesses and the community at large. Together, we are shaping the future of Bahamian tourism, and I am excited to see the continued growth of Nassau Cruise Port as a gateway to the Bahamas and a source of opportunity for all.”
