Editorial: Travel Advisors Need to Stay Ahead of Changes

Editorial: Travel Advisors Need to Stay Ahead of Changes

As we enter 2024, all indicators point to another solid year for travel — maybe not quite at the same level we have enjoyed recently, but certainly much better than over the pandemic. As one industry executive put it to me, “We might all have to put in a bit more effort this year, but the bookings will be out there.”

In preparation for the year ahead, it’s important to become familiar with all the new products available in 2024. And there is probably no segment of travel with more exciting new options than river cruising — with beautiful new ships, a range of well-known hospitality brands entering the market and even new (to U.S. consumers) rivers. Our latest cover story will help you learn more about all the new riverboats hitting the market. It’s a great article to keep on hand, so you can refer back to it throughout the year.

In preparation for the year ahead, it’s important to become familiar with all the new products available in 2024.

And while we’re on the subject of change, I want to call your attention to our masthead. For the first time in 27 years, there’s a name missing from that list: Lisa Frobisher, Manager of Marketing and Sales Administration, who decided to retire at the end of 2023.

For those of you who never got to meet Lisa, she was at the heart of everything we do at TravelAge West — she helped guide and support sales, editorial, marketing, awards, research and much more. She was also a hoot to work with and an all-around great person. I have worked closely with Lisa for most of my 20 years at TravelAge West, and I will dearly miss having an ally, a shoulder to cry on and a partner who was always good for a laugh. Fortunately, Lisa will continue to oversee our annual WAVE Awards — a not-to-be-missed event that she was instrumental in growing.

We wish Lisa the best of luck going forward and congratulate her on a career that helped shape TravelAge West.
