Known for its European river cruise operations, Vantage Deluxe World Travel has debuted its first seagoing vessel: Ocean Explorer. The 162-guest ship will traverse the world, from Europe and North America to Central and South America, along with Antarctica.
“At Vantage, our goal is to provide the ultimate in small-ship luxury experience,” said Henry R. Lewis, founder and owner of Vantage, in a press release. “Ocean Explorer will offer a completely unique experience for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the culture of faraway lands and truly experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, while enjoying the incredible service and amenities of an intimate small-ship environment.”
The $70 million, Polar Code 6 vessel and its Ulstein X-Bow, designed for smooth sailing in rougher waters, may look familiar — it’s one in a series from SunStone Ships that other expedition brands have chartered.
Ocean Explorer was christened by godmothers Patricia Lewis (wife of Mr. Lewis), and Deirdre Dirkman, vice president of Worldwide Operations, at the Raymond L. Flynn Cruiseport Boston Terminal in Boston on Oct. 25.
The ship features 77 cabins and suites (including some at triple occupancy), and 15 solo staterooms. Further highlights extend to a low passenger-to-crew ratio, an observation deck, a hot-rock cooking restaurant, an infinity swimming pool and two hot tubs, along with spa facilities, a fitness center and adventure amenities such as wildlife viewing, kayaking and paddleboarding (depending on the itinerary).
Inclusive in the fare are beer and wine with dinner, unlimited Wi-Fi access and a five- or 17-person expedition team (on certain routes). Rounding out staff and amenities are a medical doctor, a gift shop, a library, a dedicated dining space for groups or special events and entertainment programming with 100 film titles.
Following Ocean Explorer will be a second sister ship — Ocean Odyssey — coming online in 2022.
