This year, July 4 will bring more summer fun than usual with the grand opening of Legoland New York Resort in Goshen, N.Y., located just 60 miles northwest of Manhattan. The new 150-acre family-friendly theme park — the largest Legoland ever built — will feature more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, including a Lego Miniland with 10 destinations constructed from 22,000 Lego bricks.
“Legoland New York Resort is the ultimate Lego theme park destination for kids ages 2 through 12 and their families,” said Matt Besterman, a spokesperson for Legoland New York.
“We focus on ‘hands-on, minds-on’ activities, and our interactive rides are designed to be a kid’s ‘first’ — like the first time driving a car or riding a rollercoaster.”
Legoland New York will also introduce the Lego Factory Adventure Ride, featuring the world’s first use of on-ride tracking technology that identifies riders’ physical attributes and transforms them into virtual Lego Minifigures.

“Imagine seeing yourself as a Lego Minifigure,” said Julie Estrada, head of public relations North America for Merlin Entertainments, owner of Legoland resorts. “I can’t wait to see the looks on our guests’ faces when they experience it.”
The on-site hotel opens in 2021, but Besterman notes that travel advisors can book 2020 stays at the resort’s partner hotels.
