Mothers-to-be represent a fertile market for Hawaii spas, and
resort facilities around the islands are responding to their needs
with treatments specifically designed for pregnant clients.
During a prenatal massage at the Renaissance Ilikai
Waikiki Hotel, for instance, a pregnant woman can lie on
her stomach for a full hour thanks to therapeutically designed
contour body cushions. A 60-minute massage at the Ilikai costs $89.

At Four Seasons Resort Wailea on Maui,
therapists with prenatal massage training perform wahine hapai
(pregnant woman) massages.
“The therapist uses a blend of oils to improve the elasticity of
the skin, and the touch varies to address individual such needs as
stress relief, poor circulation, lower back ache, edema headaches
and swollen feet,” said Four Seasons spa spokeswoman Carol
Bartlett.
A 50-minute session costs $110, with an 80-minute treatment for

Kohala Sports Club and Spa, at the Big Island’s Hilton
Waikoloa Village, offers its own treatment to help women
relax during pregnancy. Called Maternity Bliss, the $302 package
includes a massage with supports, and an energizer session to

Mauna Lani Spa, adjacent to Mauna Lani Bay Hotel &
Bungalows on the Big Island, features a hapai massage with
pregnancy cushions or pillows. Rates are $110 for 60 minutes and

While Fairmont Kea Lani Maui doesn’t offer a
specific maternity massage, spa director Christie-Jo Arquette
suggested the 85-minute Coco Butter Vitamin E massage for the

Spa Grande at Grand Wailea Resort on Maui
offers a similar hapai massage using vitamin E-enriched cocoa
butter to improve elasticity and moisturize the skin. A 50-minute

Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort, Anara Spa director Robin Jumper said
about 5% of all clients request pregnancy massages. A 25-minute
pregnancy massage costs $70, with a 50-minute session for $115 and

Lanai Resorts’ spa director Linda Richey
recommended the Hehi Lani (step into heaven) foot treatment for
pregnant guests. “It’s great for swelling feet,” said Richey, whose
spa is located at Manele Bay Hotel. The 50-minute session costs
