Wellness Opportunities on Oahu’s North Shore

Whenever Richard Oshiro stays on Oahu’s rural North Shore, he starts each day with a jog in the great outdoors.

“It’s invigorating to run in the clean morning air, without crowds or traffic,” said Oshiro, sales and marketing director for Courtyard Marriott Oahu North Shore. “I’m always keenly aware of the North Shore’s natural healing power.”

Clients with a yen for wellness travel will love this peaceful destination, renowned for its laid-back towns and easygoing pace of life. Whether they visit for the day or their entire vacation, travelers discover pastimes that get hearts pumping and spirits soaring.

Active clients can practice responsible tourism during North Shore zipline adventures with Climb Works Keana Farms, mountain bike excursions at Turtle Bay Resort, hikes with North Shore EcoTours and horseback rides at Gunstock Ranch.

Water lovers can enjoy activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and snorkeling. The famed surf mecca is ideal for catching waves in the calm summer months with companies such as Surf Hawaii and Hans Hedemann Surf School.

Meanwhile, the North Shore’s environment creates a soothing setting for health and wellness hubs such as Nalu Kinetic Spa at Turtle Bay and Sullivan Estate, a private day spa. The annual Wanderlust Yoga, Music and Surf Festival, held from late February to early March, inspires clients with movement classes, entertainers and stimulating speakers, artists and chefs.

Sustainable agriculture has taken root on the North Shore, where clients craving organic meals feel right at home. Farmers markets in Haleiwa and Waialua wow with ultra-fresh produce, and tours of Kahuku Farms lead guests straight to the source. The farm-to-table philosophy is alive and well at area eateries such as Beet Box Cafe — beloved for its smoothies, soups and sandwiches — and Sunrise Shack, with nourishing bowls, salads and wraps made with seasonal ingredients.

Travel advisors who are eager to build a wellness-centric client base can utilize Oahu Visitors Bureau’s e-newsletters and online training, which provides up-to-the-minute tips for selling Oahu’s North Shore — a destination guaranteed to satisfy body and soul.
