WAILEA, MauiThe sign at Outrigger Wailea Resort now reads Wailea
Marriott, an Outrigger Resort, but that’s the only change guests
notice when staying at the property. Instead, changes are taking
place behind the scenes to strengthen the marketing power of the
521-room southwest Maui hotel.
According to Wailea Marriott marketing manager Kathy Dziedzic,
the Marriott affiliation is helping the Maui hotel tap new markets,
including Marriott Rewards members and corporate and meeting
customers. “We’re gaining global brand recognition in areas around
the world where Marriott has a huge presence,” she said.
“Through this franchise agreement, Outrigger will have the
resources of Marriott’s worldwide name recognition to produce
strong overall results,” said Stan Brown, Marriott’s Pacific vice
president.
Honolulu-based Outrigger Hotels & Resorts reached a similar
franchise agreement with Marriott for Outrigger Waikoloa Beach on
the Big Island, now called Waikoloa Beach Marriott, an Outrigger
Resort. Outrigger, which bought and renovated the two properties
between 1998 and 1999, continues to own and manage them both.
A new Marriott brand program of value-added packages will be
introduced soon, Dziedzic said.
Meanwhile, clients can continue to book Outrigger promotions at
the Wailea Marriott.
The three-night Romance Wailea Style package with champagne,
keepsake glasses, chocolate-covered strawberries, massage for two
and admission to the hotel’s luau starts at $999 per couple through
Dec. 21, 2003. Paradise Plus gives clients a choice of rental car
or breakfast with rates from $269 per night.
To create further name recognition, Wailea Marriott is joining
with other properties in the area to promote high-profile annual
events like the Maui Film Festival, running this year from June
11-15, and the Skins golf tournaments held each January.
