Las Ventanas Is Ideal for Romance

Jun 11, 2012

To call a charming, upscale resort situated along a beautiful stretch of the Sea of Cortez in Los Cabos romantic is not really surprising. At Las Ventanas al Paraiso, however, romance has become an art.

Consider the fact that Las Ventanas actually has a Department of Romance, headed by a director of romance. The department’s staff works closely with guests — both in advance of arrival and during their stay — to understand what the guests want and to fulfill their guests’ desires, from romantic weekends and unique marriage proposals to weddings.

“The director of romance assists the guests to create a truly magical moment that they will remember forever,” said managing director Martein van Wagenberg. “Travel agents can reach out directly to our director of romance when they want to plan something special, like an anniversary dinner or a simple romantic moment like returning from dinner to find the suite filled with flowers, champagne on ice and their favorite music playing.”

The Five-Diamond Las Ventanas, a Rosewood Resort, features a fusion of Mediterranean and Mexican decor, with whitewashed buildings, stone and dark wood accents and colorful Mexican textiles. There are seven pools, including a few with infinity edges and stunning ocean views. There is also tennis, a fitness center and a recently updated spa on property, as well as golf at the world-famous Cabo Real course less than five minutes away. (The signature 15th green of Cabo Real is practically part of the resort grounds.)

Dining options at Las Ventanas include a Ceviche, Sushi and Tequila bar; seaside dining at Cocina del Fuego, with wood-burning grills; and The Restaurant, known for signature Baja-Mediterranean cuisine. The inventive menu at The Restaurant was recently updated to celebrate Mexico’s culinary traditions, with ingredients and techniques that reflect the country’s history and diversity. The culinary team members used their own family recipes in order to present a menu that is both sophisticated and authentic.

Another option is dinner in the resort’s wine cellar, called La Cava, one of the most unique venues in all of Los Cabos. A chef’s table-style dinner is available in La Cava on certain weekdays, and the venue is also perfect for small groups.

The 71 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites at Las Ventanas range in size from 960 square feet to nearly 4,000 square feet, and they are ideal for couples looking to be pampered. All suites feature butler service, spacious living areas, wood-burning fireplaces and ocean views. On a recent visit, my Ocean View Rooftop Terrace came with a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom as well as a hot tub on the terrace. There was also a telescope for star gazing and a circular staircase on the terrace that led to a private rooftop patio with daybeds. If I wanted to partake in the hotel’s “Sleep Under the Stars” program (one of the offerings in the Romance Menu), my butler would have set up a complete bedroom — with a range of amenities — on the patio.

In fact, customizing a guest’s experience is one of the hallmarks of the service at Las Ventanas. Guests can choose to have dinner in their suites, on their terraces or on their rooftop patios. During my stay, I saw couples served elegant, candlelit dinners in a variety of cozy spots throughout the property, including a plaza overlooking the ocean and at the end of a torch-lit beachside path. There was one couple who asked for “Cinema Paraiso” — dinner and a movie on the beach — so the staff set up a dinner table, a bed, a large-screen television and a fire pit on the sand. The staff then drew “Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe” in the sand.

“The most important aspect for customizing a guest’s stay is to really care about guests: listen to what they say, read between the lines and deliver more than they expect, every time,” said Wagenberg. “Our central philosophy is to provide incredibly personalized service, while adding a romantic touch to each activity.”
