Secrets Marquis Launches in Los Cabos

Nov 27, 2011

Travel agents booking romantic getaways may now increase their clients’ options with Secrets Marquis in Los Cabos, which debuted earlier this month. The launch is a rebranding of the deluxe, five-star 235-room Marquis Los Cabos, which is well-regarded for its stunning, open-air lobby filled with original sculptures, its location at the tip of the Baja Peninsula and its reputation as a honeymoon haunt. The property marks AMResorts’ first Secrets in the Mexican destination following openings of Dreams and Zoetry properties in Los Cabos.

Familiar amenities within the Unlimited Luxury concept of the all-inclusive, adults-only Secrets resorts — such as pool and beach concierge, international liquor and wine labels, in-room romantic dining around the clock and premium spa and fitness center services — will greet travelers. In addition, more than two dozen plush, one-bedroom beachside casitas, a legacy from the former Marquis Los Cabos, are in place with MP3 docking stations, Wi-Fi access, private pools and a close-up view of the Sea of Cortez.

With honeymooners and couples who are about to tie the knot in the U.S. as its primary market, plans are in the works to build a waterfront wedding gazebo and market custom-created romance packages. Expanding dining options, three new restaurants will be added to the seafood, grill and buffet-style eateries. Asian fusion, French gourmet and an informal coffee shop serving fresh-baked pastries are now among the dining options.

Larger flat-screen televisions, DVDs and fine Italian bed linens will go along with soft goods renovations to spacious guestrooms and suites, which have whirlpool tubs, safes that fit laptops, sofa beds and balconies or terraces overlooking the ocean. Event space accommodating up to 800 persons will get a makeover as well.

Consistent with offering a round of nonstop land and water activities, guests will be able to participate in tequila tastings and wine pairings as well as scuba diving, rock climbing and golf. Active clients will also enjoy yoga and parasailing options. A sea turtle rescue program with baby hatchlings will take place with volunteers of all ages from May to July each year.

Secrets Marquis is part of The Leading Hotels of the World, a membership that began when the resort first opened in 2003. Hotelier Ella Messerli, who will stay on as the property’s general manager, said, “We are excited to be part of the AMResorts family and are looking forward to the transition.”

Messerli also said the resort will remain open for business during upgrades, which may be completed as soon six month’s from now. In order to maintain the integrity of the original hotel design, the same Mexico City-based architectural firm has been contracted to complete the work. Agents can still take advantage of introductory rates good through the end of November, which run $266 per person and include all Unlimited Luxury amenities.
