When it comes to vacation travel to Mexico, an awful lot of attention is focused on families and couples. But singles are important, too — as evidenced by the fact that Velas Resorts recently announced that it’s waiving the single supplement fee for single parents traveling with children.
Whether with or without accompanying travelers, single adults heading to Mexico will find a variety of hotels that set the scene for relaxation and meeting other people. These are a few of the best choices for heading out alone.
Hotels With Bars and Lively Social Programs
It’s only natural that hotels with popular on-site bars and social activities are ideal for single vacationers. W Punta de Mita, on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, is home to a buzzy Wet deck pool area, where singles can sip expertly prepared cocktails and treats such as alcohol-infused ice cream. Also great for socializing is Chevycheria, a vintage Chevrolet truck that has been reimagined as a beachfront ceviche and cocktail spot.
In Los Cabos, ME Cabo is a hot spot for socializing, thanks to on-site venues such as Blue Marlin Ibiza Los Cabos, a hip poolside beach club, and Rose Bar, where DJs spin nightly. Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos is also popular for adult socializing, with a poolside VIP bar and the Stones Club, a Rolling Stones-themed nightclub.
In Acapulco, Hotel Las Brisas offers yet another chic option for sun-loving singles. At La Concha Beach Club, guests can meet at the swim-up bar as well as at two saltwater swimming grottos, while the Sunset Bar is the perfect place to strike up a conversation over a cocktail at the end of the day.
Hotels Near Nightlife
Sometimes, the best way to be social is to leave behind the gigantic, self-contained resort hotels and stay closer to the local scene. In Mazatlan, the elegant Casa Lucila offers beautiful accommodations within blocks of dining and nightlife in the city’s historic center. And in Puerto Vallarta, Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel & Romantic Getaway is an all-inclusive, adults-only beachfront resort that sits at the entrance of downtown, making it easy to enjoy the city’s lively after-dark action.
Adults-Only Hotels
It’s only logical: If you’re an adult traveling alone, you’re probably not too interested in being around families with kids. A top adults-only option is Secrets The Vine Cancun, a stylish all-inclusive resort with seven lively bars and lounges that serve unlimited top-shelf spirits. Nearby, Finest Playa Mujeres is great for children but offers plenty of bliss for grown-ups who want to avoid them, thanks to the expansive adults-only accommodations, pool areas and dining and drinking options on one side of the resort. On the Pacific coast, Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta has four bars and lounges as well as an amphitheater with live performances.
Consider signing up for a unique activity, such as sandboarding.

Singles who aren’t interested in nightlife can still mingle by signing up for activities on vacation. Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort, a new hotel on the Caribbean coast, and the neighboring Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort offer access to group-oriented activities such as beach volleyball that are ideal for meeting people. In addition, the property’s new fitness center offers group spinning and yoga classes.
Also on the Caribbean coast is Mayakoba, the 1,600-acre resort destination in the Riviera Maya, which is another good place for active outings that can foster socializing. Singles can meet friends while playing golf on the 18-hole course, partaking in cooking classes at El Pueblito Cooking School or during an on-site guided nature walk or bike tour.
Local Excursions
Travelers can also meet new people during tours and off-property activities. In Baja Norte, for example, singles can meet in a decidedly outdoor environment, by checking into Cuatro Cuatros, a group of 19 cabins set among vineyards. Nearby activities include sandboarding in the desert, swimming with whale sharks and skydiving. It’s hard not to make new friends after sharing breathtaking experiences.
