Hotel Review: Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort

Hotel Review: Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort

At first glance, Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort was a bit of a surprise to me — instead of the more spread out, multi-building layout that I’m used to from previous stays at many Mexico all-inclusive resorts, the new property looks and feels more like a compact high-rise. But depending on what clients are after, the resort (which opened in July 2020) hosts plenty of features and amenities to keep them happy and entertained.

Located beachfront inside the gated community of Puerta del Mar, the resort’s convenience is a definite plus: It’s just 10 minutes from Cancun’s Hotel Zone and around 30 minutes from Cancun International Airport. While this is not necessarily the ideal resort for beach bums — it does sit on the shoreline, but the stretch of sand along the hotel isn’t expansive — it’s perfect for golfers, as the property sits adjacent to the Puerto Cancun Golf Club.

Accommodations at the 416-room resort are modern and comfortable, and all feature a private, furnished balcony or terrace. Families will appreciate the 185 Family Connecting Suites, while other options include suites with plunge pools and upgraded Preferred Club options.

Clients with kids will find that the resort offers various opportunities for family fun — in addition to a large main pool that overlooks the ocean and neighboring golf course, Dreams Vista Cancun features two surf pools where guests of all ages can test out their surf skills, plus a small, yet entertaining, water park for little ones. There’s also an Explorer’s Club for Kids (ages 3-12) and a Core Zone Teens Club (for ages 13-17) with daily activities, as well as a climbing wall.

Dreams Vista Cancun Preferred Club Is Worth Recommending

If booking for couples, luxury-seekers or clients who favor exclusivity, I’d highly recommend an upgrade to the Preferred Club, which comes with a slew of special perks. A dedicated lounge offers Preferred guests a more personalized check-in/out experience, continental breakfast, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, sweets and premium liquors.

Preferred Club suites are also located in premium locations and offer upgraded in-room amenities. In my bathroom, for example, I found a kit containing not just the basic shampoo and conditioner (in a larger-than-normal size, I might add), but sunscreen, bug spray, a toothbrush and toothpaste, along with other helpful items.

The upgrade also comes with exclusive privileges at Dreams Spa by Pevonia, such as a complimentary hydrotherapy circuit once per stay. But my favorite benefit was the adults-only rooftop pool that’s only available to Preferred Club guests. Floating near the pool’s edge, looking out over the turquoise sea, I had exactly the kind of at-peace-in-paradise moment that you want from a Cancun beach vacation.

In terms of wining and dining, Dreams Vista Cancun is home to eight restaurants and seven bars, including one bar that’s only for Preferred Club guests, and another that borders the beach.

Though my brief stay at the resort only afforded me time to try a couple of the on-site eateries, the meals I had were all well prepared and beautifully presented. Standouts for me included Mexican-focused Mi Lucrecia, where I enjoyed delicate crab tacos and tender chicken mole, and Mediterranean-fusion Bluewater Grill (for adults only), where the rooftop location alone makes it worth a visit.

Other dining options range from a pan-Asian restaurant to Italian cuisine, an international buffet, an a la carte lunchtime snack restaurant, a cafe/ice cream parlor and a gourmet court with six international food stations.

Popular Attractions Close to the Resort

Another benefit of the property is its easy access to water-based excursions, thanks to an on-site pier. To catch my snorkeling boat, for instance, it took just a few short steps across the beach and down the jetty before I was onboard and setting out to sea. Within easy reach are the Cancun Underwater Museum of Art (where sunken sculptures decorate the ocean floor and provide a home for various marine life) and Playa Mujeres, a compact island with stunningly beautiful ocean views — plus a population of wandering iguanas.

All in all, Dreams Vista Cancun uses its space well to provide plenty of choices, entertainment and amenities for guests. Best of all, it’s delivered with true warmth and care from the staff, who make sure to deliver a top-quality experience all around the property.

COVID-19 Considerations

At the time of my visit, COVID-19 protocols at AMR Collection properties in Mexico (including Dreams Vista Cancun) included checking guest temperatures at the lobby entrance (at check-in and upon return from any off-site activities), luggage disinfection, provided hand sanitizer in rooms, advanced cleaning and sanitization processes for rooms and around the resort and on-site antigen testing prior to departure. Masks were required for staff but only recommended for guests.
