An Inside Look at Alaska's Anchorage Museum

Far to the north, where the aurora borealis brushes the Alaskan night sky, travelers can discover an equally vibrant display of artistic wonder — at Anchorage Museum, which is home to a large collection of cultural artifacts.

Its expansive galleries take visitors on an odyssey from the earliest records of human history to the works of modern-day Alaskan artists, providing enlightening context for any client’s visit to the 49th state.

Last September, Anchorage Museum unveiled its new Alaska Exhibition, which tells the story of a land filled with complexities, extremes, legends and mysteries. Riveting multimedia installations weave the narrative of Alaskan heritage through 13 different themes. More than 400 objects are on display as guests take this fascinating walk through time.

And with guided tours available, no client has to embark on the journey alone. In fact, Anchorage Museum is home to a variety of programs that elevate the museum-going experience to a new level. For kids, a trip to the Discovery Center is a must — its interactive space simulates earthquakes and tidal pools.

Overall, the museum invites visitors to consider what Alaska truly is — what is real, what is myth and what lives in the space in between.

One of the most visited attractions in Alaska, the museum is open daily from May through September; it’s closed on Mondays from October through April. An atrium cafe and a restaurant are located on-site, and the museum’s gift shop is a great place to purchase authentic Alaska Native art.

Museum admission is $18 for adults; $12 for seniors, students and military (with identification); and $9 for children ages 3 to 12.
