I’m a cookie snob — always have been, always will be. And I take my (self-given) title of cookie connoisseur very seriously: When evaluating the treat, there are many criteria one must consider, from physical beauty and flavor to texture and ingredients. Also important is how it makes the eater feel.
So when I popped into Milkbean cafe while visiting San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood, I was ready to judge the heck out of the shop’s homemade cookies. Much to my delight, the Fruity Pebbles cookie I sampled was a true winner. It was just the right amount of crispy and chewy, with a soft interior complemented by crunchy Fruity Pebbles cereal that was sprinkled throughout. It was sweet, but not overly so, and its slightly imperfect shape assured me it was truly handcrafted.
As one good treat deserves another, I also grabbed an almond butter cake for the road (OK, fine, I ate it five minutes after I left the shop). It was just as tasty as the cookie.
Milkbean also serves coffee drinks, tea and matcha drinks, along with sandwiches and milkshakes.
