Bike buffs can get into the spirit of the Tour de France by taking part in a family-friendly bike event called Tour de St. Honoré. Based in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego, the event takes place from 9 a.m.-1 pm. on June 27.
Named after a popular neighborhood bakery and café with deep roots in the Portland cycling community, Tour de St. Honoré features two recreational rides: a 19-mile family ride around Lake Oswego and a 38-mile ride from the Lake Oswego bakery to Canby. Spaces for the rides are limited, so bikers should reserve their spot soon by logging on to St. Honore's Web site.
“Bringing all our bike partners together to host this debut cycling event gives us a chance to promote cycling and give back to the cycling community,” said Dominique Geulin, owner of St. Honoré. “We have been sponsoring the Sorella Forte women’s cycling club for the past six years and are proud of their role in women’s cycling to enrich women’s mental and physical well being.” The bakery attracts a big following of bike aficionados as it broadcasts Tour de France coverage daily from July 3-25.
Along with the bike rides, Tour de St. Honoré features a free bike-tuning workshop, a trivia quiz, giveaways for all levels of riders and t-shirts for sale.
Raffle tickets will be sold, with the funds going toward making the greater Portland Metro area a better place for local biking communities. The drawing takes place at noon on June 27, with such prizes as a new bike, wine country bike tour for two, riding jacket, helmet and baking classes.
