Dallas Blooms, the nationally famous floral festival put on by the Dallas Arboretum, serves as the city’s harbinger of springtime. This year marks the 29th anniversary of the festival, which will run from March 2 through April 7.
Featuring 500,000 spring-blooming buds — including tulips, daffodils, Dutch Iris and hyacinths —a long with 100,000 pansies, violas, poppies and other annuals and perennials, Dallas Blooms offers a lush welcome to the spring season. Also on display will be 100 cherry blossom trees, which will bloom for 10 days. The festival will reach its finale in early April with the blooming of 6,000 azaleas.
“It is once again time for those magical days at the Dallas Arboretum when all your favorite spring flowers burst into bloom,” said Dave Forehand, the arboretum’s vice president of gardens. “Tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, cherry blossoms, azaleas and more put on our famous flower show, Dallas Blooms.”
Other pleasures await visitors alongside these cornucopian floral displays, including live piano performances in the Dann Talley Kincheloe Courtyard, a three-course Spring Tea in the afternoons, Mommy & Me Mondays and Tiny Tots Tuesdays. Also complementing Dallas Blooms this year will be a large educational outdoor exhibit called “The Adventures of Great Explorers,” commemorating the achievements of Marco Polo, Admiral Byrd, Ponce de Leon, Cabeza de Vaca, Captain James Cook and Lewis & Clark. The exhibit will open with Dallas Blooms and run until Dec. 31.
