Thanks to late summer monsoon rains, Tucson and Southern Arizona is home to a diversity of bird species, affording prime bird-watching opportunities. In order to fully enjoy this seasonal offering, visitors and locals can attend two bird-watching festivals in the region this summer.
The Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival, taking place Aug. 1-4 in Sierra Vista, will offer 35 field trips throughout southeastern Arizona, including overnight trips to the Chiricahua Mountains and Madera Canyon. The festival will also offer a children’s program and a writer’s workshop.
From Aug. 15-19, Tucson will host the Tucson Bird and Wildlife Festival. The festival will feature The Sky Islands Birding Cup (Big Day competition), as well as a Nature Expo, workshops, a youth birder outing and fieldtrips to local birding hotspots. Bird enthusiasts can also take advantage of a special festival rate at Riverpark Inn, which is offering stays starting at $59 per night.
