Ponant and South Sea pearling company Paspaley today announced a partnership to launch a new expedition yacht in remote Asia Pacific destinations. The 30-guest Paspaley Pearl will begin its inaugural sailing in January 2025 after a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, offering year-round voyages to the Kimberley region of Australia, Far North Australia, East Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

The vessel will feature a crew of 21, including four naturalist guides, to provide expert-led experiences. It is also reportedly the only boutique expedition yacht in the Kimberley region to offer private balconies for all guests.

Itineraries will include destinations such as Indonesia's Raja Ampat and Spice Islands, as well as the Sepik River and New Britain Island in Papua New Guinea. Activities will range from remote fishing to pearl cultivation along the Kimberley coast. Ponant also plans to highlight local cultural traditions, including traditional buffalo races in Sumbawa Besar and experiences with the Duk-Duk society of the Tolai people.

The inaugural 10-night expedition is scheduled to depart on January 10, 2025, sailing from Dili in Timor Leste to Bali. Planned stops include the Seventeen Islands Marine Park for swimming and snorkeling, Lembata Island to explore local traditions, and opportunities to encounter wildlife such as whale sharks and Komodo dragons.
