Golfers Soak Up Sun and Savings at Riu Hotels & Resorts

Aug 02, 2005

Tell your golf-loving clients to start packing. Beginning Nov. 1, guests to Riu Hotels & Resorts in Mexico can soak up the sun and the savings with perks at select golf courses. From unlimited free golf for guests of Riu Palace Las Americas to 50 percent savings for all guests of Riu hotels in Cancun and Riviera Maya, savings are available through Oct. 31, 2006.

Hurricane Emily spared the Riu properties in the Yucatan Peninsula. The resorts, which maintained power and services throughout the severe weather, received little damage. Riu resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen are open and fully operational.

“The most important thing is the safety of our guests and employees,” said Miguel Violan, communications manager for Riu Hotels & Resorts. “Being prepared makes all the difference.”

Developed and implemented in 1996, Riu Hotels & Resorts has a Hurricane Preparedness Manual and Team at each property.

Along the Caribbean coast of Cancun and the Riviera Maya, guests at any of the eight Riu resorts in the area will enjoy 50 percent savings off rack rates at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Mayan Palace Golf Riviera Maya.

Guests of Riu Palace Las Americas, a 368-room upscale oceanfront resort in Cancun, will receive unlimited free golf at Pok Ta Pok Golf Club. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the course weaves along a dramatic shoreline and ancient Mayan ruins. The property also offers its guests a 25 percent discount on green fees at the Hilton Golf Club and a 10 percent discount at the Hilton Pro Golf Shop.

Those staying at Riu Cancun and Riu Caribe, two oceanfront resorts located in Cancun, will receive the same discounts at the Hilton club, as well as  a 25 percent discount on green fees Pok Ta Pok Golf Club.

On Mexico’s west coast, guests of the recently opened 846-room Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas enjoy reduced rates at the Raven Golf Club, an 18-holer carved from the natural Cabo San Lucas mountain and desert terrain. Depending on the season and time of day, rates are from $50 per round.

In Puerto Vallarta, guests of Riu Jalisco can soak up savings at Flamingos Golf Club from Nov. 1 through April 30, 2006. Tee times are $72 before 3 p.m. and $60 after 3 p.m.. Times can be booked in advance or upon arrival at the hotel.

A family-owned business, Riu Hotels & Resorts operates more than 110 hotels worldwide, with 23 properties in the Americas region including the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Florida, Jamaica and Mexico.
