As a partner to our guide to solo cabins on ocean cruise ships, we’ve rounded up a list of options for solo riverboat cruisers.

Given their limited size, inland vessels tend to have fewer dedicated solo cabins (always without single supplements), although they are still available on some lines. And in cases where they are not available, periodic specials may reduce or altogether eliminate single supplement fees.

Here, we break it down, per brand, for a comprehensive guide to solo traveler options for 11 river cruise brands.

Amadeus River Cruises

Two of Amadeus River Cruises’ vessels — Amadeus Brilliant and Amadeus Diamond — have 107.6-square-foot Single Cabins with single beds and panoramic windows. Otherwise, the line always offers a reduced 15% single supplement in C-1 and C-4 cabins, and there is no limit on how many single cabins can be booked.

AmaWaterways

Onboard AmaWaterways’ AmaCello, AmaDante, AmaDolce and AmaLyra, there are two solo cabins per vessel, each measuring 140 square feet with French balconies. And during select sailings, solo travelers can enjoy reduced single supplements (typically 20-25%).

American Cruise Lines’ entire fleet features solo cabins, with several on each vessel, and all without any additional single supplement. In fact, American Heritage has 18 solo rooms with or without balconies across multiple decks. In any other category, a supplement applies.

Aqua Expeditions

Aqua Expeditions is a bit of a crossover between river cruising and expedition cruising, and the line does offer solo traveler specials. Select departures onboard Aqua Nera, Aqua Blu, Aqua Mekong and Aria Amazon waive the typical single supplement of 25%.

Avalon Waterways

Avalon Waterways does not offer any solo cabins per se, but it does waive its single supplement on a certain quantity of cabins on almost every departure in Europe and Southeast Asia, which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Emerald Cruises and Scenic

For corporate cousins Emerald Cruises and Scenic, many riverboats showcase solo cabins without supplements: two Emerald Single Staterooms each on Emerald Dawn, Emerald Destiny, Emerald Liberte, Emerald Luna, Emerald Sky, Emerald Star and Emerald Sun; and single amenities on Scenic Amber, Scenic Crystal, Scenic Diamond, Scenic Jade, Scenic Jasper, Scenic Jewel, Scenic Opal, Scenic Pearl, Scenic Ruby and Scenic Sapphire.

Plus, single supplements in other categories may be free or reduced to 25% or 45%, depending on select dates and terms.

Riverside Luxury Cruises

Newcomer Riverside Luxury Cruises, which is operating Crystal River Cruises’ former fleet, does not highlight any solo cabins. But it does have timed offers, such as no single supplements in 182-square-foot Melody Suites onboard Riverside Debussy and Riverside Ravel, and in 215-square-foot Harmony Suites onboard Riverside Mozart.

Riviera River Cruises

Similarly, Riviera River Cruises does not have dedicated solo staterooms, but the line does set aside up to four or five cabins per standard departure to be booked by solo travelers with a single supplement. Select river cruises will waive the supplement.

Tauck

Annually, Tauck waives single supplements on Category 1 cabins fleetwide for the entire season. And supplement reductions of $1,000 may extend to other select cabin categories on certain sailings.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises does not have any solo cabins, but the luxury line waives single supplements on various itineraries, based on those that will appeal to single travelers, as well as those that have enough double-occupancy reservations.

Viking

All of Viking’s staterooms are designed for double occupancy, but on occasion, the line will offer special solo traveler fares to offset any supplements. Pricing updates are posted periodically.

Viva Cruises

Viva Cruises, which does not offer solo staterooms, provides single supplements on all of its voyages, ranging from 25% to 45% dependent on the departure date.
